Connected Hearts
[Verse 1] The wick is burning, steady and low, A tiny flame in the endless flow Of time that stretches and fades from view, My journey's ember, keeping it true. It lit the path where my own feet trod, Through silent valleys and hills of God, A single purpose, to see the way, And use the light of my brief, borrowed day. [Verse 2] The wax is melting, the heat grows near, Dispelling the shadows, conquering fear. This little fire, my spirit's spark, Has cut a passage through the cold and dark. It warmed a hand, it dried a tear, It showed the way when the end was near For someone else who needed the gleam, To find their footing, to build their dream. [Chorus] And when I turn to face the end, I look behind where the shadows bend. I expect the darkness, a lonely night, But I see the many, many lights. Ignited by my candle, a silent creed, On their own paths, planting their seed, A constellation where one light did start, The countless flares of every connected heart. [Verse 3] The flame leaps higher, then starts to fade, Its final moments, a debt is paid. The light I carried, no longer my own, Through every person, it has grown. My time is over, my candle is done, But the borrowed light becomes the sun In other hands, a persistent ray, Guiding their steps on their chosen way.
