MERCY 006 – Ash Week Convoy | The Mercy
(Verse 1) They loaded school buses while the city burned behind, With smoke across the rooftops and the sirens out of mind. They packed the bottled water, tools, and medicine in crates, And carried sleeping children past the open garden gates. (Verse 2) The fuel trucks groaned beside them through the ash and broken glass, While vans and pickups waited for the frightened line to pass. They marked the first clear junction with a rag upon a pole, And counted every living face like fire against the soul. (Chorus) Ash Week convoy, crawling through the flame, Calling for a rescue that never knew their name. Every road before them led to silence just the same, Ash Week convoy, moving without aim. (Verse 3) They thought a distant capital would answer by the dawn, Or soldiers at a checkpoint would explain where hope had gone. But every radio muttered with another broken plea, And every voice kept asking what the others could not see. (Verse 4) They siphoned dead cars dry beside the Paled in frozen rows, And learned which hands could drive and which could bind a wound that closed. The old maps told them highways, but the bridges told them no, So movement became order where the terrified could go. (Chorus) Ash Week convoy, crawling through the flame, Calling for a rescue that never knew their name. Every road before them led to silence just the same, Ash Week convoy, moving without aim. (Bridge) This was not yet gospel, only grief with wheels and fuel, A queue of broken strangers learning panic needed rule. They gave the children blankets while the burning skyline fell, And found no untouched kingdom at the ending of the trail. (Outro) So still the first road lessons haunt the routes they later made, In water lists and fuel marks and the debts that fear once paid. They fled the dying cities under ash instead of sky, And learned the world was silent while the convoy rolled by.
