Purple Journey (Rock On)

STUDIO

The following song covers my personal history with Deep Purple, using as many song and album titles as possible. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 Verse 1 Back in "’69", the year of my birth, A heavy sound was shaking the earth. But I was sixteen, just a curious kid, Torn between what the radio did. "Listen, Learn, Read On", that’s what I chose, From the Beatles’ melodies to the Stones’ pose. "The Painter" of my youth was rock and roll, Looking for "Pictures of Home", though "Nobody’s Home". Verse 2 Then my uncle smiled, with a vinyl in his hand, He said: „Let me introduce you to a heavy-hitting band.“ He dropped the needle on "Machine Head", And in an instant, my old world was dead. It was a "Fireball" blowing through my brain, A "Speed King" racing through my vein. "Into the Fire" I went that day, Bought a compilation—"Maybe I’m a Leo", but I had to hear them play. Chorus It was "The Battle Rages On" between the keys and the strings, Oh, the beautiful madness that a Hammond organ brings! Blackmore’s wild guitar, Lord’s "Child in Time" roar, "Smoke on the Water", opening a brand new door. A sonic "Rapture of the Deep", so loud and so bright, Giving me a "Highway Star", "Watching the Sky" through the night. Verse 3 In school we were "Perfect Strangers" no more, "We’re All the Same in the Dark", blasting those riffs till they shook the floor. Then came university, a brand new stage, Turning the leaf to a different page. In student digs, with a glass of red wine, We shared the live albums, feeling so fine. No "Bad Attitude", just friends in a room, Chasing away the "Chasing Shadows" of gloom. We’d "Keep on Moving", "Step by Step", chasing every tune. Verse 4 Decades passed by, the clock wouldn’t wait, I was in my forties when you walked through the gate. You came to my hometown, where you played in ’73, Standing front row, "Knocking at Your Back Door", with my college friends next to me. Ian, you cool soul, "Man Alive", standing there, Rocking the mic, barefoot, with "No Need to Shout", without a care. I thought: „This is the "Uncommon Man"’s last goodbye, Before the "Sun Goes Down", beneath "Wasted Sunsets" in the sky.“ Four out of five were already past seventy years, But you conquered the stage, and "Love Conquers All" our fears. Verse 5 But signs and wonders are "Clearly Quite Absurd", Until the next "Stormbringer" intro is heard! Just recently, open air, back where I used to study, I stood in the crowd with my son-in-law buddy. Ian Gillan at eighty, putting sixty-year-olds to shame, Still "Burn", still burning bright, still playing the game. Paice and Glover vital, keeping the groove tight, Still "Hold On", every rhythm exactly right. Like a "Portable Door" leading straight to the light. Don took us "Above and Beyond", what a beautiful sound, While the „youngster“ Simon set fire to the ground! Outro For sixty long years, you’ve been a "Lazy Sod"’s dream, The ultimate, timeless rock-and-roll team. From "Shades of Deep Purple" to the newest "Splat!", You showed us exactly where the magic is at. Your energy and passion—"Love Conquers All", that’s well known; Still "Keep on Moving", forever...
