No big moment. No bright light. No sudden understanding in the middle of the night. Just Buying better shoes because the cheap ones hurt. Keeping old concert tickets inside a drawer with paperwork. Learning which calls can wait until tomorrow. Learning some can’t. Learning the difference late. I thought growing older would feel like arriving. Mostly it feels like remembering something halfway through the day. There’s a street I used to walk with nowhere much to be. Passed it in the car last week. Didn’t recognize the trees. Someone moved away. Someone had a kid. Someone changed completely. Someone says I did. Maybe. I thought growing older would feel like arriving. Mostly it feels like finding old versions of myself in places I forgot to look. I know how to fix more things now. Still break the important ones. I know when to leave. Still stay too long. I know better. Sometimes I even do better. No big moment. No bright light. Just morning. Again. And somehow that’s alright.
