You Are My Way - Ayoa & Kaelo - Bennie Mellies

[Opening Refrain — Kaelo, Male — no drums] You are my way Even when the road says no You are my way Even where I cannot go Not a map inside my hand Not a promise I can claim You’re the choice beneath each step You are my way [Verse 1 — Kaelo, Male] I watched the water split the crystal Saw two halves begin to glow Every rule said, “Do not follow” Every breath said, “Don’t let go” Mi know I shoulda stayed behind Still I stepped into the blue I was never chasing answers I was only drawn to you [Answer — Ayoa, Female] You say my name just like a doorway Like I open what you seek But don’t make me into a compass Turning every time you breathe I can meet you in the water I can offer what is true But if I become your whole horizon You might lose the fire in you [Refrain — Call and Response] [Kaelo — Male] You are my way [Ayoa — Female] But I will not be your chain [Kaelo — Male] You are my way [Ayoa — Female] Then don’t surrender your name [Both] No map inside our hands No debt that love must pay You’re the choice I make in freedom You are my way [Verse 2 — Ayoa, Female] I have spent my life believing Every road was mine alone Every hand became a warning Every open door unknown But your voice is never pulling You don’t tell me where to be You just stand within the silence Till I hear the truth in me [Free Vow — Kaelo, Male] Mi nah come to be your answer Or to turn your east to west I just know when I am near you Even wandering can rest I won’t ask you for forever I won’t hold you if you stray But if freedom brings you near me I will choose you every day [Wordless String Interlude] [Ayoa — Female, distant] Ooh—ooh… [Kaelo — Male, low response] Mm-mm… [Bridge — drums disappear] [Kaelo — Male] I do not need you smaller [Ayoa — Female] I do not need you strong [Kaelo — Male] I don’t need forever [Ayoa — Female] Just be true while we walk on [Kaelo — Male] If the path divides tomorrow [Ayoa — Female] Let love be true today [Both] We can choose each other freely Without giving self away [Final Refrain — Both] You are my way Not the road beneath my feet You are my way You’re the truth that walks with me No map inside our hands No vow we have to fake You’re the choice I make in freedom You are my way [Counterpoint] [Kaelo — Male] You are my way [Ayoa — Female] I walk my own way [Kaelo — Male] You are my way [Ayoa — Female] And still I choose to stay [Both] If the water turns to darkness If the stars forget our names We will know each other in the silence You are my way [Whispered Coda] [Kaelo — Male] Mi follow di light [Ayoa — Female] I follow my heart [Both] We meet in the middle [Kaelo — Male] No chain [Ayoa — Female] No claim [Both] Only choice You are my way [guitar outro] [whisper] Ben, Ben, Bennie pon di riddim
