The whispers Don't Lie

[crew chant – slow stomp rhythm] “Ohhh… dock lights flicker low…” “Heave ho… through the cargo rows…” [Verse 1] The harbor ain’t water, it’s steel and stone And the night shift crew don’t work alone We sail through aisles where shadows grow Where lantern lights don’t fully show The bells don’t ring, but the beeps still cry Like ghostly gulls in a blackened sky And every pallet stacked too high Feels like a ship that passed us by [Verse 2] I swear on rope and rusted chain I heard the docks call out a name Not from man, not from machine But from something in between “Who moves there?” the captain cried But the echo lied and the silence sighed Only lights that blinked in red Like warnings left for the dead [Chorus – crew call and response] Oh dock lights don’t lie! (don’t lie!) They flicker when she passes by (passes by!) Oh dock lights don’t lie! (don’t lie!) But they don’t tell us why… (why… why…) [Outro] And the sea of steel went still that night… But something moved out of sight…
