Time Rests

Time Rests -------------- A woman stands beside the endless ocean Alone upon the shore, the tide has drawn She watches shadows cross the water's motion The wind moves through the reeds and fades at dawn It leaves behind a trail of grief and crying In all the heavy light where day is dying The salt of spray breaks bitter on her face A sting the open water can't erase She listens to the pull of what is calling The spray breaks cold and bitter, sharp and clear She seems within this open space, forestalling The ghost of one warm summer, lost but near Her memory is all that will remain A beautiful and fading, wordless pain Time rests here in the sand without a care And in the sand the foam dissolves to air The seabirds flee and wheel without a sound Like scattered leaves of paper, pale and thin The waves strike hollow, turning cold and round The distant pillar takes the crash within Where evening falls and trembles, cold and spare The burning sky turns slowly, beyond repair And nothing moves except her waking heart That strange and tender fear that tears the world apart She watches as the far horizon's breaking The line between the sea and sky undone Time rests here in the sand, no longer waking Refusing now to move or be outrun The foam that crosses sand returns to start And writes its fear upon the shore, its only art The horizon fades and will not be explained And she remains, like everything, unchained --- "Time Rests" Copyright © 2026 Rick n' Stolti.
