[Intro] [Piano and clean guitar] [Verse 1] I took the morning train to Canterlot. Didn't send a letter first. Spent the whole ride planning what I'd say. Forgot it when I saw her. She was waiting in the throne room, like somehow she'd already heard. I put the rubbing down between us. Didn't need to say a word. She looked older for a moment. Not the princess from my youth. Just somepony who'd been carrying the weight of one old truth. I asked her, "Did you know?" She said, "Yes." That hurt more than I thought it would. [Pre-Chorus] All those years, all those lessons, every book you put before me. How many pages did you know were missing when you taught me Harmony? [Chorus] Celestia, what did you hide from me? What were you so afraid I'd see? You taught me truth should stand in daylight, then locked this one where light couldn't reach. I could forgive a frightened choice. I could understand a scar. But you looked me in the eyes for years and never told me who we are. [Verse 2] She said Will was never simple. Never evil. Never safe. It taught ponies they could choose themselves instead of taking destiny on faith. Some walked paths they'd never dreamed of. Some became who they should be. Then others stopped believing they owed anything to anypony. Towns broke down. Old friendships ended. Every compromise became defeat. And ponies started calling every bond another chain around their feet. So they sealed the Seventh Element. Scraped its name from every wall. Not because they thought it powerless. Because they'd seen it answer when called. [Pre-Chorus] I said, "You could have told us." She said, "I thought the danger passed." I said, "No. You just made certain nopony could question the past." [Chorus] Celestia, what did you hide from me? What were you so afraid I'd see? You taught me truth should stand in daylight, then locked this one where light couldn't reach. I could forgive a frightened choice. I could understand a scar. But you looked me in the eyes for years and never told me who we are. [Instrumental] [Heavy melodic guitar] [Verse 3] She stepped down from the throne then. I don't know why that mattered. Maybe because for once there wasn't any crown between us. She said, "Twilight, I was afraid." And I almost laughed. Not because it wasn't honest. Because I'd never heard her say that. She said every peaceful century made the silence easier to keep. And every year she waited made the truth another promise buried deep. Then she said— "I should have told you." I wish that fixed a thing. [Bridge] [Sparse, emotional] "You taught me to ask questions." "I know." "You taught me not to fear the answer." "I know." "You sent me out to learn what friendship means." "I know, Twilight." "Then why didn't you trust me with the truth?" [Pause] "I didn't trust myself." [Heavy guitars rise] [Final Chorus] Celestia, you should have told me. Even if the truth was hard to hear. Harmony can't mean honesty only when there's nothing left to fear. I won't pretend Will can't be dangerous. I won't pretend you had no scars. But protecting us from yesterday doesn't give you the right to choose tomorrow on our behalf. You taught me how to seek the truth. So that's exactly what I'll do. And if there's something underneath the Harmony I thought I knew— I'm going to find it. With or without you. [Outro] [Piano, clean guitar] I turned to leave. She didn't stop me. Just before the doors closed, I heard her say— "Twilight... don't let Will convince you that needing others makes you weak."
