In Search of Avalon
The spoken intro: At the beginning of the last millennium, the ancient Celts tried to find a certain mysterious, mystical island in the ocean called Avalon. On this island, golden apples grew. Legend had it that eating such an apple would grant a person immortality. Thousands of ships set out in search of this island, but not one of them returned home. Verse: I’m too old now, my angel blind, A storm at sea, laughter unkind, But I laugh back, and in reply, The wind has laughed for years gone by. This ship is bare, no living here, The last am I, I disappear, I sense death’s breath, it's drawing near, No! Verse: I saw the ships meet their demise, I recall blood and the battle cries, My comrades' final, mournful moan — We sought the shores of Avalon, But maybe I'll find hell instead, On faded maps, in dust, misled, It’s time to turn back, leave ahead No! Noooo! Nooo! Chorus: Avalon’s the call, In Caribbean squall, Or Bermuda’s stones, I will find where my true fate belongs, Avalon's no dreeeeeam! Verse: I hear the call from ocean’s deep: “Step off the deck, your soul to keep, Touch the water, you’ll be free, Your Avalon’s a dream to be.” I can’t recall in which far land I lost my friends to this demand, But now I hear it, here I stand No! Noo, nooo! Chorus: Avalon’s the call, In Caribbean squall, Or Bermuda’s stones, I will find where my true fate belongs, Avalon's no dream!
