The Illusion Collapsed

THE ILLUSION COLLAPSED [INTRO | DISTANT CALLIOPE | HEARTBEAT] What a week... I don't even know what I'm supposed to believe anymore. [VERSE 1] One by one the faces shifted, not the ones I thought I'd see. People showing different motives than the ones they showed to me. Words that sounded like protection, hands that looked like they would help, now I'm standing in the aftermath questioning everything I felt. Maybe I read some of it wrong. Maybe some of it was true. That's the problem with an illusion... you don't know it was one until you see straight through. [PRE-CHORUS] Now my heart's been hijacked, my mind multiplies, every answer splits in two the second something doesn't align. Who meant what? Who knew what? Who was helping? Who just claimed? And why does everybody look attacked when I finally name the pain? [CHORUS] The illusion is collapsing all around me at once. Everything they claimed they were is struggling to hold up. And maybe this is the trial: Will I bend beneath the weight? Will I trade away my values just to make all this feel safe? No... But God, I'm tired. I'm hurt. I'm confused. I'm drained. Trying to keep hold of my light while everything around me changes shape. [VERSE 2] Some came dressed as friendship. Some came promising what's best. Some kept saying, "Wait till tomorrow," while today became a mess. Some pulled strings around my heart, then acted shocked when something tore. Some planted doubt between the cracks then wondered what the distance was for. And maybe I don't know their motives. That's the thought that keeps me still. Because believing someone's story doesn't make their story real. [PRE-CHORUS] Now I'm replaying conversations, every silence, every sign. Trying not to turn suspicion into another fucking lie. Because hurt can build illusions too. I know that much is true. So how do I trust what I'm seeing when I once trusted all of you? [CHORUS] The illusion is collapsing. Every curtain's coming down. Things I thought were solid feel like smoke around me now. And maybe this is the trial: Will I become what hurt me too? Will I bend what I believe because I'm angry and confused? No... Even if I'm tired. Even if tonight I don't know what's true. I won't let somebody else's darkness decide what I become too. [BRIDGE | MUSIC FALLS AWAY] I don't need everyone to be a demon. I don't need myself to be a saint. Maybe people are complicated. Maybe fear makes people change. Maybe some intentions started honest. Maybe some never fucking were. Maybe tomorrow really will be different. I've heard that one before. [PAUSE] That's what hurts. Not having the answer. Watching everything I believed become a question at the same fucking time. [BUILD | SLOW DRUMS] But maybe I don't need every answer tonight. Maybe I only need one. When all of this is over... will I still recognize myself? [FINAL CHORUS] Let the illusion keep collapsing. I won't hold the scenery up. If something only stands because I refuse to look, then let it turn to dust. This may be the trial. Fine. I'll meet it where I stand. Sad. Confused. Completely fucking drained. But still myself. You can hijack my heart. You can multiply my mind. You can make me question everything. You will not steal my shine. I won't bend against my values just to keep somebody near. And I won't become somebody darker just because the truth isn't clear. [OUTRO | BROKEN CALLIOPE | HEARTBEAT] What a week for the illusion to collapse. [WHISPER] Maybe I don't know who everyone else really is yet. But I know who I refuse to stop being.
