Up next is a song was by EMMA WILLARD about 150 years ago. She was an eminent teacher, and author of several well-known school-books, and led a rather prominent and interesting life.. But Willard is (or rather was) a very documented lyrist; she wrote poetry specifically for the purpose of having it set to music. The most well-known example of her creativity is the song “Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep.” "Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep" was written during Mrs. Willard's ocean passage home from Europe in 1832. Presumably the weather had been rough for parts of the trip which inspired Emma to write a few lines about it. The Duke de Choiseul was on board the vessel, and hearing her repeat the first two lines, urged her to finish the song... Which she did, and here's our cover of it.. [Song begins] [Instrumental prelude] Rocked in the cradle of the deep, I say lay me down.. (Rock'd in the cradle of the deep. Rock'd in the cradle of the deep. The deep deep Rock'd in the cradle of the deep.) Rocked in the cradle of the deep, I say lay me down.. in peace to sleep. Secure I rest up on the wave, For thou O!Lord, hast pow'r to save. I know thou wilt not slight my call, For thou dost mark the sparrow's fall ! And calm and peaceful is my sleep, Rock'd in the cradle of the deep, And calm and peaceful is my sleep,. Rock'd in the cradle of the deep. Rock' [Interelude [Stormy Seas, Thunder, Wind, boat tossed, yells, heavy metal] Rock'd in the cradle of the deep. Rock'd in the cradle of the deep. Secure rest on waves Rock'd in the cradle of the deep. Calmly I [Verse 2] And such the trust that still were mine, Tho' stormy winds swept o'er the brine, Or tho' the tempest's fiery breath,.. Rous'd me from sleep to wreck and death! In ocean cave still safe with Thee, The germ of immortality; And calm and peaceful is my sleep, Rock'd in the cradle of the deep, And calm and peaceful is my sleep,. Rock'd in the cradle of the deep. Rock'd in the cradle of the deep. [Outro] But Rock'd in the cradle of the deep. Deep deep Rock'd in the cradle of the deep. Calmly I sleep Rock'd in the cradle of the deep.
