HOSI NO MAKIMONO Twenty-Seventh Release: "[ALTAR] - Chorus of the Wedding Bell and Funeral Knell" There are no lyrics for this song. Instead, I invite you to listen closely and share with me what kind of story it is able to paint for you with instruments alone. [ALTAR] is a piece that, while straying quite far from the original vision I had, nevertheless does a fantastic job of conveying the beauty and tragedy that I wished to portray. Though I'll only be creating lyrical songs on special occasions, I greatly enjoy opportunities to utilize non-lyrical vocals as I've done here. Vocals are an instrument in themselves, and the level of depth they provide can be very valuable even without words driving them. As the bell rings out, what occasion does it mark? The warm joy of union, or the sobering loss of passing? For some, the two sounds may hold equal weight, resonating in harmony within their memory. Every fateful meeting begins a countdown to an eternal parting, with all souls ultimately set adrift, never again to grace the world of the living as the same life. Yet what of when this natural order is overturned? A soul, dragged back from restful sleep, to a mundane world irrevocably transformed — a world built upon the bones of their beloved consort. To one once content and long departed, such a world bears no purpose without their other half. If the funeral knell has been played in reverse, let it be done for both, that the bell of matrimony might join them together once more. For such a pure desire, all manner of sufferings are but passing trifles. Let the land buckle and split with fear. Let fell beasts reclaim the purest lands. Let blood stain the innocent villages in crimson. On the day that love prevails, these sins shall surely be forgiven, for it was by their grace that the land and its people were born. The sacred ceremonial altar, hosting their union and departure, shall now serve as the site of their revival. I hope [ALTAR] was able to illustrate this character's love, loss and twisted devotion to you, and bring you some small sliver of enjoyment in the process. Please stay tuned for future releases.
