Storms of Life

As the cold night winds batter at your door, And the rain thrashes hard against your window, You pull the shades and shiver as you see The storms of life that batter endlessly. With your family close all huddled up, Throw a log on the fire—watch the sparks fly up. The red‑amber glow that lies beneath, Red‑hot cinders glow to warm your feet. Will we sing a song or play a game While the storm blows the winter rains? Make some coffee or have some tea, Or talk about the days of yesteryear. As the fire dies and less heat from the glow, We head for bed all in a row, Wishing each other the best of the night— Say our prayers, switch off the light. And so, as we close our eyes and hear The storms that fill our minds with fear, Be thankful for our home and pray For those who are homeless, Lost and astray.
