MAMA’S CHRISTMAS PUNCH

V6

Verse 1 Every year on Christmas Eve When everybody comes, Mama gets a great big bowl And starts her Christmas fun. She pours a little this in, Then adds a little that, And if you ask her what it is, She smiles and says, “Imagine that!” Chorus Oh, everybody loves Mama’s Christmas punch, We start sipping after dinner and we’re giggling before lunch! Nobody knows what’s in it, And Mama won’t say much, But Christmas gets a whole lot merrier With Mama’s Christmas punch! Verse 2 The children aren’t allowed to have it, Mama makes that very clear, “This is only for the grown-ups— You kids stay over here!” Well, that always made us wonder What could possibly be wrong, ’Cause after Daddy’s second glass He starts singing Christmas songs! Chorus Oh, everybody loves Mama’s Christmas punch, One glass makes you jolly, two will loosen you right up! Nobody knows what’s in it, And Mama won’t say much, But Christmas gets a whole lot merrier With Mama’s Christmas punch! Verse 3 By the third glass Uncle Charlie Thinks that he knows how to dance, Aunt Louise is underneath the mistletoe Giving everybody a chance. Grandpa’s telling jokes again We probably shouldn’t hear, And Grandma’s on the sofa saying, “Fill it up, my dear!” Bridge The tree looks twice as pretty, The carols sound just right, And people you’ve been arguing with Are wonderful tonight! Everybody loves everybody, Old grudges disappear— There’s something in that punch bowl That brings out Christmas cheer! Chorus Oh, everybody loves Mama’s Christmas punch, We start out acting proper, but that doesn’t last too much! Nobody knows what’s in it, And Mama won’t say much, But Christmas gets a whole lot merrier With Mama’s Christmas punch! Verse 4 By midnight Daddy’s hugging Folks he doesn’t even like, Uncle Charlie’s wearing tinsel And somebody stole his tie. Grandma kissed the mailman— And he wasn’t even there! While Mama guards the punch bowl With that little knowing stare. Final Chorus Oh, everybody loves Mama’s Christmas punch, One glass starts the party, two or three will turn it up! Nobody knows what’s in it, And we’ve finally quit asking much, ’Cause Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas Without Mama’s Christmas punch! Tag So raise your glass to Mama, And another Christmas year— Whatever’s in that punch bowl… THAT’S what we call Christmas cheer!
