Sheep and Goats
They stand in lines beneath the sky, Soft wool silence in their eyes. Counting fences, counting days, Learning all the proper ways. Every bell around their neck Rings approval, safe and correct. Grass is greener where they’re told — Warm, obedient, never bold. They heed the shepherd’s every call, Never questioning, trusting all… Ruly sheep in perfect rows, Following wherever the cold wind blows. Heads down low, afraid to outgrow — While wild hearts spark inside the goat. Unruly goats on rocky slopes, Chasing freedom, testing hopes. Maybe lost, maybe broke — But they walk their own untaken road. Goats don’t wait for gates to rise, They taste the edge, they test the skies. Scarred knees and reckless grins, Dancing where the fall begins. They jump before they understand, Climb the cliffs on nimble legs. Trail unknown, hearts unafraid, Chasing edges no one dares. No shepherd’s voice will bind their way, They make their own rules every day. Ruly sheep in perfect rows, Safe and certain where grass grows. Heads down low, afraid to outgrow — While courage burns inside the goat. Unruly goats climbing peaks, Testing edges on rocky cliffs. Maybe lost, maybe sore — But they keep jumping, seeking more. Maybe we were both once wild, Before we learned to stand in line. Maybe fear is just a fence Drawn inside the mind. Are you wool? Are you horn? Were you still — Or were you born to climb? Ruly sheep in perfect rows, Safe and certain where grass grows. Unruly goats climbing peaks, Testing edges on rocky cliffs. Some follow rules, some break away, Some do both along the way. We choose our path, we walk it all, Sometimes careful, sometimes bold.
