Prompting in Mandarin in Suno is a completely different boat than working in English, which is probably why a lot of mandarin-speaking creators still prompt in English. Even lyrics don't prompt the same way. I haven't had the opportunity to work in any other languages, mainly because I don't actually speak any other languages and I'd just struggle at what the hell is going on...more than I already am doing now. The Chinese prompting seed is HEAVILY weighted in favor of c-pop, easy listening; ANY mandarin prompts or even lyrics will lean into that direction, which is a giant obstacle. Perhaps because Suno's creators aren't mandarin-speaking themselves (or what they ripped from is hard to understand even through an AI translator, even for ABCs), even prompting for the names of Chinese music genres won't actually get you them. You can see in this particular song I actually prompted house+house (and put the english one in front, because otherwise I'd just get solid c-pop/piano music), but the resulting isn't that heavy on house (much stronger on C-shoegaze, but that's what the second prompt was for). C-pop music from the training data appears to be VERY heavily piano-based, so that shows up pretty much consistently. Chinese genres have some really strong Chinese folk influences, and that shows up a lot too. If you want to do Western music genre fusions be prepared to use a LOT of qualifiers to try to overwhelm the C-pop weighting, which immediately intrudes the moment you prompt or use lyrics in Mandarin. It's very possible to work around, just spends more credits. I'm making it a point to use electroswing in everything, at this point, because a) I do think it's my style and voice, and b) because it adds a lot of color and softening to otherwise one-note piano or rhythmic tracks (except for this track, because I wanted to make a point with the house+house). Echoing works differently in mandarin - namely that just brackets on their own get ignored, you have to follow Mandarin singing notation with the dashes; I've yet to test the << >> of titles, but square brackets still work fine. That being said, the Mandarin speaking audience also tends to like the C-pop style (which...makes sense) but I like western genres, so I'm aiming to work them in; western genres will tend to be slightly less popular, but hey, at least they sound different, I guess. I think this is a wholly new direction for me to explore in, tbh, and I like the idea of C-Electroswing; it doesn't exist in Chinese music right now as far as I can tell. The closest is 时代曲, but 时代曲 is really more C-Hollywood music of the 1920s; the right era to sample from, but WAY more grandiose and less jazzy than swing samples from the same era. I'll still work it in someday, watch me, but it's damned hard to get sounding nice; the aims of 时代曲 and electroswing are completely different.
