I’m sitting on the sofa, same old evening, same old game, Turning little colored squares that never seem to look the same. Years have passed in tiny clicks, twisting left and twisting right, Still I swear I’m getting closer… maybe even *tonight*. My wife is sitting next to me, she’s giggling soft and sweet, With paper strips and scissors lying scattered at her feet. I ask her why she’s smiling, she just shrugs and shakes her head, So I keep on solving colors that refuse to line up red. Oh, I’m almost there now - just a little twist to the right, Move the red one over, slide the green one into sight. No? That doesn’t work… but maybe this way, let me see - Hold on, I feel it coming, maybe *finally* it’s the key. Yeah, I’m almost there now… almost there now… Almost there now - just one more try from me. The seasons change outside the window, I don’t notice anymore, I’m chasing perfect patterns like a knight in cardboard war. She laughs again, I tell her, “Honey, this cube’s a mystery,” She nods and says, “You’re doing great,” with far too much sincerity. Oh, I’m almost there now - just a little twist to the right…
