Gladius Domini (Sword of the Lord)

V5

[Intro – Low monk chant over distant sword-steel] Non veni pacem mittere, sed gladium (Matthew 10:34 – “I came not to send peace, but a sword”) [Verse 1 – Crushing mid-tempo groove] Wolves in the night circle the fold, Shepherds asleep while the innocent bleed. The Lord has spoken: “He who has no sword, Let him sell his garment and buy one indeed.” (Luke 22:36) Steel for the righteous, fire for the proud, Mercy to the weak, judgment to the loud. [Pre-Chorus – Choir + war-drums] Qui non habet, vendat tunicam suam et emat gladium (He who has no sword, let him sell his cloak and buy one) [Chorus – Massive, anthemic] Gladius Domini et Gedeonis! Sword of the Lord and of Gideon! Rise, protectors of the flock, Strike the wicked, break the yoke! With righteous iron we defend the meek, In the name of the Lamb, the wolves shall bleed! [Verse 2 – Faster, galloping riff] “Beat your plowshares into swords, And your pruning hooks into spears” (Joel 3:10) The meek shall inherit, but the violent take by force the gate, We are the violent who love – for love will not stand idle while evil seals their fate. [Verse 3 – Haunting lute + low growl] If a thief comes by night to steal, kill, destroy, My hand will not spare when the children cry. Greater love lays down its life, But also takes up the blade when the innocent die. [Bridge – Half-time, choir thunders] Ecce dedi te in gladius acutus (Isaiah 49:2 – “He made my mouth like a sharp sword”) Permissum est tibi uti gladio (Romans 13:4 – “He does not bear the sword in vain”) [Breakdown – Brutal growls + gang shouts] SMITE! The neck of the oppressor! CRUSH! The hand that harms the least! By the authority of Heaven, We execute vengeance released! [Final Chorus – Epic, soaring] Gladius Domini et Gedeonis! Sword of the Lord and of Gideon! For the fatherless, for the widow, for the bruised and the broken, We ride with fire in our eyes and the Word as our token! Righteous violence, holy wrath, The Shepherd’s rod and staff now sharpened into wrath! [Outro – Gregorian chant over fading war-march] Qui percusserit hominem volens occidere, morte moriatur (Exodus 21:12 – “Whoever strikes a man so that he dies shall be put to death”) Protector pauperum… Deus vult… Amen.
