[Intro: Very short, snare drum ensemble with military choir oohs and aahs] [Verse 1] Ed’s and ordinary guy In a desert hot and dry Drinking coffee with his brothers in the mess They’re all talking about the families they left back home Ed is staring at a photo With a crease in the middle That his wife hid in his pocket For him to find when he was gone With a note that said, “Just look at us when you’re feeling alone” [Pre-Chorus] Just ordinary Ed With an extraordinary call But when you take a closer look You will see [Chorus] They ain't ordinary Though they walk the same street They’re marching to a tempo That’s a different kind of beat When the shadows get long And the dangers are real They answer that extraordinary call Yeah, the Stars and Stripes Are imprinted on their heart Standing up for their country And doing their part There’s nothing ordinary About a soldier standing tall [Verse 2] Jen’s an ordinary gal On a ship in the ocean Serving her country with pride Following in Her father’s footsteps She was 10 years old when he died “On behalf of a grateful nation” Those solemn words were said His folded flag hangs on her wall Now she defends her country with honor She answered that same call [Pre-Chorus] Just ordinary Jen With an extraordinary call But when you take a closer look You will see [Chorus] They ain't ordinary Though they walk the same street They’re marching to a tempo That’s a different kind of beat When the shadows get long And the dangers are real They answer that extraordinary call Yeah, the Stars and Stripes Are imprinted on their heart Standing up for their country And doing their part There’s nothing ordinary About a soldier standing tall [Verse 3] There’s an Ed in every cafe And a Jen in every store Just regular people, but they’re giving so much more It’s a selfless decision A quiet, heavy choice To be the silent thunder To be the nation’s voice They wear the uniform With honor and pride Knowing freedom is fragile And may cost their life Pre-Chorus Just ordinary people With an extraordinary call But when you take a closer look You will see [Chorus] They ain't ordinary Though they walk the same street They’re marching to a tempo That’s a different kind of beat When the shadows get long And the dangers are real They answer that extraordinary call Yeah, the Stars and Stripes Are imprinted on their heart Standing up for their country And doing their part There’s nothing ordinary About a soldier standing tall [Bridge] Ed didn’t do it for the glory Jen didn’t do it for the fame They don’t need a spotlight for their name They just know the torch was passed to their hand To protect every acre of this God-blessed land Without a fear, without a doubt, they step into the night With love for their fellow man They serve our country with pride [Chorus] They ain't ordinary Though they walk the same street They’re marching to a tempo That’s a different kind of beat When the shadows get long And the dangers are real They answer that extraordinary call Yeah, the Stars and Stripes Are imprinted on their heart Standing up for their country And doing their part There’s nothing ordinary About a soldier standing tall [Tag] Yeah, they’re America’s best, standing tall Answering that extraordinary call.
