Pixels and Promises - (A Star Citizen Parody)

[Intro] Yeah... It's been a long ride... Still lookin' toward tomorrow... [Verse 1] Back in twenty-twelve they sold us all the stars, Dreams of flyin' free way past the edge of Mars, Bought a shiny spaceship, swore we'd rule the skies, Fourteen years later, still hearin' "in due time." Hangars full of starships, Big plans on the way, Every year they tell us, "Just a little more delay." Roadmaps for the roadmap, Then another one appears, We've been chasin' that horizon For a whole lotta years. [Pre-Chorus] Time rolls by like freight trains, Slow and out of sight, Server crash at midnight, Guess we're done tonight. [Chorus] We're runnin' on pixels and promises, Smoke and neon wishes in the abyss, Every patch says "Soon," Every year insists, We're still livin' on pixels and promises. Pixels and promises, Faith and a little stubbornness, One day we'll touch the stars they sold to us, Till then it's pixels and promises. [Verse 2] Salvage came and went, Then it came around again, Cargo got reworked while We were waitin' in the wind. Bartender's still frozen, Starin' through my soul, Elevator's got me prayin' As it swallows me whole. The Idris ain't arrived Like they said back in the day, But there's three new concepts And another ship to pay. The verse keeps gettin' bigger, That's the line they always use, While another feature drifts Into somebody else's news. [Pre-Chorus] Squadron's "almost ready," At least that's what we're told, We've heard that same story Since we were feelin' old. [Bridge] But then the sun comes risin' Over Hurston's dusty plains, Your buddies fill the turret And you're flyin' once again. For one sweet minute Everything feels right, Like the future they've been sellin' Finally came alive. One more roadmap, One more plan, One more promise just beyond our hands, One more year, One more try, Still we're watchin' those horizons fly. [Guitar Solo] [Final Chorus] We're runnin' on pixels and promises, Smoke and neon wishes in the abyss, Every setback met with one more ship to list, Still livin' on pixels and promises. Pixels and promises, Faith and a little stubbornness, The greatest game that maybe someday is, Built on pixels and promises. [Outro] Raise a glass to dreamers, The believers and the fools, We'll see y'all after maintenance... If the servers hold true. Yeah, we're still here... Still watchin' those stars... Still runnin' on pixels and promises.
