Traces

V6

Everyone we meet leaves something behind — Some marks grow faint, while others settle deep. Some walk into the rooms inside your mind In muddy shoes, then leave the mess to keep. They come and go without a backward glance, Not caring what they've broken on their way. And you're the one who slowly cleans the stains From everything you tried so hard to save. Some crash into your life just like a storm, They break the locks and tear the whole place down. And even when the skies have turned to calm, You hear the thunder when no one's around. And some come through like fire in the night, They burn to ash the things that helped you breathe. The hopes you guarded vanish with the light, Till dust and empty rooms are all they leave. Some drain you of the feelings you once knew, Take all your strength, your trust, your love away. And when they're gone, there's nothing left in you But silence where your heartbeat used to stay. We learn to lock the doors and hide the key, To doubt the sweetest promises we hear. We stop believing happiness could be Something another person might bring near. But now and then, a different kind appears — They never force their way into your soul. Their simple words can quiet all your fears, A steady light when darkness takes its toll. Those people are so rare in this world. They ask for no reward, demand no part. They never search for places where you hurt. They simply stay beside you, heart to heart. And somehow fate once brought me someone rare, Who understood the things I couldn't say. I never had to tell you my despair — You simply helped me breathe another day. You looked inside where all my hurt had grown And saw what life had left behind in me: The shattered walls, the dreams burned to the ground, And ashes where my springtime used to be. You never tried to fix what broke in me, Or promised me the sorrow wouldn't stay. You simply helped me find the strength to breathe With words that brought my hope back day by day. And in the ruins, suddenly — a light. Not quite a home. A hope still small and new. But after years of staring into night, I finally see a road that leads me through. Everyone we meet leaves something behind. Some leave us wounds, some ashes, some leave scars. But there are traces of a gentler kind — The ones that heal the deepest parts of us. And if this life was kind enough to send One person through this world who chose to stay, Who came to help, not break me in the end — I'll carry you within my heart always.
