TIME 005 – The World Runs Like Fire | The Time Machine

(Verse 1) The Traveller watched the buildings rise and vanish into flame, As walls became like shadows and no structure stayed the same. The streets dissolved beneath him while new towers pierced the air, Then fell away like phantoms before others gathered there. (Verse 2) The gardens spread like rivers and then withered into dust, While hills were cut and altered by the engines of their thrust. The landscape rolled beneath him as the centuries conspired, And all the changing world became a vision running fired. (Chorus) The world ran on like fire as the ages flashed and burned, While earth and sky transformed with every instant that returned. No single life or history could hold beneath his gaze, For time had made all human things a blur of fleeting days. (Verse 3) The sun became a burning arc that crossed the heavens fast, While moon and stars swept overhead too swiftly to be cast. The seasons spun like colours in a wheel that would not cease, And winter followed summer with no interval of peace. (Verse 4) He saw no kings or battles and no nations rise or fall, For history moved far too fast to separate at all. The triumphs and disasters of a thousand years were gone, Reduced to restless patterns as the great machine drove on. (Chorus) The world ran on like fire as the ages flashed and burned, While earth and sky transformed with every instant that returned. No single life or history could hold beneath his gaze, For time had made all human things a blur of fleeting days. (Bridge) The past became a torrent and the future burned ahead, While countless generations passed among the living dead. He rode beyond the measure of the hours he once desired, And watched the whole of history like one great world on fire. (Outro) Still onward drove the Traveller through centuries unseen, While every age dissolved before he learned what it could mean. The world became a furnace where all mortal forms expired, And time itself flowed round him like a universe on fire.
