[Verse 1] After school we'd make our way Down to the basement, guitars in hand Troy and Darren, James and me Just kids who didn't know we had a plan Nobody taught us how to want it We just wanted it enough Learning came so easy When the learning was just love [Chorus] We were good as gold, the whole lot of us Chasing chords in a room that smelled like dust Even the reverend came to play Man, I had respect for him that way Didn't know it then, didn't know the cost Some years you don't know 'til they're gone, 'til they're lost Now it's forever and a day Since I saw them boys, forever and a day [Verse 2] Sometimes we'd walk the other road Down to the Catholic school instead Closer to my house, and the sound Rang different in that room, I said Two churches, one religion Six strings and a beat-up amp Didn't matter whose basement We were building something that would last [Chorus] We were good as gold, the whole lot of us Chasing chords in a room that smelled like dust Even the reverend came to play Man, I had respect for him that way Didn't know it then, didn't know the cost Some years you don't know 'til they're gone, 'til they're lost Now it's forever and a day Since I saw them friends , forever and a day [Bridge] Time don't ask you if you're ready Responsibilities just come Life pulls you a hundred different ways 'Til the music's the only one The church is torn down now Just a memory on that land Moved into the Big Hall next door Everything changes, I understand [Verse 3] Most my entourage were girls back then Good friends, easy company We'd spend our time just listening Some songs recorded, some just for free Windows down on long drives Or just hanging round, killing time Had respect for every one of them Still carry that today, still mine But time and life move so fast now Lost touch with more than I can name I wonder about them all often Hope life's been kind, hope it's been good, just the same [Final Chorus - half time, softer] We were good as gold, the whole lot of us That basement room, man, I still trust Even the reverend came to play I carry that with me every day Now it's forever and a day Since I saw them friends ... forever and a day [Outro] Forever and a day... Forever and a day... [Property Of TENBREATHSUN ©]
