I’ve been workin’ every weekday, countin’ down my time Got some money in my pocket and a break from the grind Said, “I’m goin’ somewhere special, gonna treat myself right” Just me and a suitcase and a month to unwind I was gonna see the world, gonna spend some time Stamp a dozen places off this bucket list of mine But every road I picked had a twist I didn’t plan So many different places had travel I couldn't stand Dreamin’ of Europe, where the old streets wind and sigh Cafés on the corners and the skyline stacked up high Hearin’ street musicians playin’ soft and sweet Walkin’ down those cobblestones with history at my feet But that silver bird keeps climbin’ higher than the breeze… And I ain’t at peace that far above the seas Dreamed of the Caribbean, where the music fills the night Colors in the shoreline towns, every step just feels right Guitarra and the rhythm, heartbeat in every line Dancin’ through the moonlight under strings of light divine With that big cruise ship rollin’ out across the blue… I’d be turnin’ green before the night was through I was gonna see the world, gonna finally unwind Find a little paradise wherever I could find But every road I picked had a twist I didn’t plan So I traded wings and water, and stayed in my home land Now I’m ridin’ on Amtrak with a window seat view Watchin’ fields roll by in shades of green and blue I Got a USA Rail Pass to travel this great land From the mountains and the plains to the coastline sand No turbulence to shake me, no waves to toss me ‘round Just the steady roll of freedom in that click-clack sound Now I’m ridin’ the rails, yeah, I’m feelin’ just fine Watchin’ this wide country, this ol’ heartland of mine Turns out paradise was right here all along In the click-clack rhythm of a railroad song Yeah, I traded wings and water, and it worked out just fine Now these rails keep on rollin’ bringing peace of mind Ain’t no fear gonna stop me, I’m right where I belong Hear that train whistle singin’ my new travel song
