Beyond The Hate

Beyond the Hate Verse 1 Every headline draws a battle line Every story picks a side Everybody’s keeping score these days With nowhere left to hide One says this and one says that The shouting never ends And somewhere in all the noise we lost The way to just be friends Chorus We’ve got to look beyond the hate Beyond the fear and blame Beyond the labels people wear And everything we claim It’s not a black and white issue Or a white and black one too When you strip away the anger and pride There’s just people trying to make it through Verse 2 Every court case gets examined Through a thousand different eyes Not by what was right or wrong But by someone’s chosen side Politicians fan the embers When they ought to cool the flame And the media pits side against side Turning neighbors into strangers For a vote or for a name Chorus We’ve got to look beyond the hate Beyond the fear and blame Beyond the labels people wear And everything we claim It’s not a black and white issue Or a white and black one too When you strip away the anger and pride There’s just people trying to make it through Verse 3 People gather behind causes Some are wise and some are not Too often we stop asking questions And repeat the things we’re taught We trade understanding for slogans And certainty for truth While the loudest voices in the room Pull us farther from the proof Bridge A mother’s tears are all the same No matter where she’s from A father wants a safer world For every daughter, every son The things that bind us still exist Though they’re harder now to see And healing starts the moment we decide To treat each other decently Final Chorus Let’s look beyond the hate Beyond the fear and blame this time Beyond the voices stirring up the fight And feeding off the divide We’re all human, every one of us Trying to find our way somehow And if we don’t start dialing it back The future won’t wait around So let’s choose understanding Before the damage can’t be undone Because the road back to each other Is the only road that leads us home Outro Beyond the hate… beyond the blame… Maybe that’s where healing begins Beyond the labels… beyond the fear… Maybe that’s how we get back here Beyond the hate… Beyond the hate…
