Fallen Crown Order [Inst.]
### English and Korean translations are provided below the Japanese story. ------------------------------------ The night in the declining kingdom was quieter than usual. The enemy forces were already about to cross the border. Outside the castle walls, the mist before dawn still drifted low across the ground. On the road half-sunk in mud, only the hoofprints of horses and the marks of banners that had nearly fallen again and again remained. The king was already standing at the edge of madness. Seated upon the throne, his eyes no longer looked at the kingdom, but at some distant illusion. That king gave his final royal command. “March upon the enemy kingdom.” The moment the knight commander heard the royal command, he sensed the fate waiting at the end of it. There would be no victory at the end of that road. No reinforcements. No return. Many of the soldiers he would lead would not live beyond the dawn. He himself would likely be the same. Even so, he did not refuse the order. Not because he believed in the king. Not because he thought they could win. But as one who had served that kingdom, and lived under that banner, he had to carry that final royal command. The knights lowered their helmets. Their expressions could no longer be seen by anyone. Some held lances, some raised shields, some rested their hands on their swords. Their equipment was uneven, and their armor was marked with mud and scars. Even so, they all faced the same direction. The knight commander mounted his mud-stained white horse and looked into the mist. The shadow of the enemy army was still far away. But he knew it was drawing closer. The rain-soaked banner stirred weakly in the wind. The emblem that had once been the pride of the kingdom was beginning to lose its color beneath mud and rain. No one spoke of victory. No one spoke of return. They simply marched forward. Beyond the royal command. Toward the place where the crown was sinking. Toward the battlefield before dawn, where there was no longer any road back. The knightly order continued its quiet march of death toward the enemy kingdom.
