The Small Siren (Once Upon a Song)
[Spoken] He’s probably right… There probably is something the matter with me. No there’s not! You’re perfectly sane! Hahahaha! But I just don’t see how a world that makes such wonderful trash could be so bad! [Sung] Look at this pile of underwater debris Wouldn’t you say that’s a nice garbage heap? Wouldn’t you say I’m the aquatic-half-human-half-fish-girl-thing The aquatic-half-human-half-fish-girl-thing who simply has everything? Look at this sunken boat Looks like it couldn’t stay afloat Looks like the shipbuilders forgot to build a few dozen lifeboats Looking around this dump you’d think Sure, I guess she’s got something I’ve got scrap metal and shrapnel a plenty I’ve got oil barrels and toxic waste galore You want unexploded depth charges from World War Two? I’ve got twenty! But who cares? No big deal I want more I wanna be where these creatures are I wanna see, wanna see them fighting Driving around in those… What do you call them? Oh! Tanks! Flopping about, you don’t get too far Tried that once, I nearly suffocated Crawling along down a… What’s the word? Trench Up where they hate Up where they shun Up where they shoot each other with a thing called a gun Conquering free Wish I could rule Part of that world What would I give if I could live out of these highly polluted waters? What would I kill to get a pill that lets me breathe oxygen? Betcha on land They don’t understand Betcha they reprimand their daughters Bright young women, sick of killing, forced to stand and fight in a war their parents started I’m ready to know what these creatures know Interrogate them until I get some answers What’s a dictator and why does it, what’s the word… Dictate? What makes them so great? Wouldn’t I love, love to wage war on that dystopian wasteland up above? Where no one is free Wish I could rule Part of that world
