[Verse 1] Came back home to a one-stop town, Wearing ghosts he couldn’t lay down. Medals rusted, drawers half shut, Whiskey whispering, “You’ve done enough.” Rearview mirror, eyes like steel, Can’t drown the things he used to feel. One more shot, foot to the floor, Angels weep when soldiers war. [Chorus] He’s the man with the itchy trigger finger, Heart still twitchin’ where the fight still lingers. Used to pull that steel for Uncle Sam, Now he’s drinkin’ just to give a damn. Can’t unpull the shot once it’s fired, Can’t kill guilt, it just gets tired. He’s the man with the itchy trigger finger. [Verse 2] He told himself, “Just one won’t hurt,” But pain don’t quit, it just gets worse. Bottle down, the room starts to spin, Old ghosts knockin’, he lets ’em in. Hands still shake, heart still sore, That engine’s hummin’ like it wants war. He turns the key, can’t feel a thing, That trigger pulls and the sirens sing. [Chorus] He’s the man with the itchy trigger finger, Heart still twitchin’ where the fight still lingers. Used to aim at men, now he’s aiming blind, At the pain he left behind. Can’t unpull the shot once it’s fired, Can’t kill guilt, it just gets tired. He’s the man with the itchy trigger finger. [Verse 3] Sirens wail, glass rains down, Bodies twisted, holy ground. In the smoke he saw his face, Younger, clean, before disgrace. That boy said, “You made it home,” But home’s a grave when you’re alone. Every drink, another prayer, Every mile, he’s halfway there. [Bridge] They said war ends when the guns go quiet, But he’s still lost in the friendly fire. That trigger’s in his heart, not his hand, One mistake, now he understands. [Final Chorus] He’s the man with the itchy trigger finger, No one wins when the pain’s that bitter. Used to fight for what was right, Now he prays for sleep at night. Can’t unpull the shot once it’s fired, Can’t bury ghosts that never tire. He’s the man with the itchy trigger finger. [Outro] He sees those kids when he closes his eyes, And prays they’ll forgive him on the other side.
