Butterfly Dream
🦋Butterfly Dream Preface 🦋 More than two thousand years ago, the Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi told a story. He once dreamed he was a butterfly, flying freely among the flowers. When he woke up, he wondered: Was it Zhuangzi dreaming he was a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming it was Zhuangzi? Perhaps the question was never meant to be answered. Because sometimes, dream and reality do not need to be clearly separated. In life, we often experience something similar. A glance, a reply, a fleeting moment, these small things can grow in our minds and slowly turn into another story. For a while, we may believe it is real. But as time passes, those memories begin to blur, like a dream fading in the morning light. And then we realize that many attachments, many confusions, and many emotions were simply dreams created within our own hearts. Some time ago, I once discussed a song with another creator. His song was called “Butterfly Dream ” He told me that the ending of his story was an endless cycle between dream and reality. At that time, I told him: “I’m an optimist. In my understanding, the story should break free from the dream.” He simply replied: “There is no right or wrong. Everyone understands lyrics differently.” Only much later did I truly understand what he meant. When a song is heard, it no longer belongs only to the one who wrote it. Every listener will find their own story within it. And so I wrote my own song with the same title: “Butterfly Dream Reflections.” If his version remains within the dream, then mine is the story after awakening. Like Zhuangzi’s butterfly dream. Only this time, the butterfly has flown away. And the person has finally awakened. This song is a tribute to Zhuangzi’s Butterfly Dream, and a dedication to my creative mentor XH. Because without that conversation, I might never have understood: Some songs are written in dreams. Some songs are written after waking. Some dreams are not meant to prove what is real or unreal. They simply exist so that when a person wakes up, they can quietly look at the world, and gently look at themselves. The wind passes through the flowers. The butterfly drifts away. And at last, a person returns to their own life. Once there was Zhuangzi Dreaming he could fly Drifting like a butterfly Across an open sky Now tonight I wonder If that dream was true Every voice around me Echoes back to you Melodies keep moving Faces passing by Lines of distant music Answer questions why Soft and hidden whispers Floating through the air Like a silent story Waiting somewhere I try to listen But it's unclear I try to follow But nothing’s here The world keeps turning Inside my mind Dream among flowers Butterflies in wind Life becomes a moment Hard to see within If I ask the question Who is dreaming now Zhuangzi dreaming Butterfly dream Bright days slowly fading Heavy days the same Scenes like quiet theatre Changing frame by frame I once thought somewhere Beyond what I see Someone far away Listening to me Then one silent moment Everything stood still All the distant echoes Faded from my will Songs that once were answers Drifted far from me Only scattered memories Left for me to see Like a broken dream Frozen in the air Dream among flowers Butterflies in wind Life becomes a moment Hard to see within If I ask the question Who is dreaming now Zhuangzi dreaming Butterfly dream No need for answers No need to know Where the dreams are coming Where the dreamers go If the dream is fading Past the endless sky Zhuangzi dreaming And so am I
