Lower Case

V6

L That's the last sentence I need to remember... that I need you to remember. [Verse 1] I've been staring at the letters like they're moving when I blink, trying to read between the meaning before I know what anything means. Something in the smaller ones keeps talking underneath, like the less they're trying to say, the more they're saying to me. I lowered every letter till it barely had a shape. Strange... the less I could distinguish, the more I could recognize the face. I'm slower with the thought, but quicker when I catch it. Lost inside the sentence, then I found it in the fracture. I was following a direction that kept changing where it led. Every step I took downward put another ceiling over my head. So tell me which way's forward when the road is underneath? If I'm falling through the floor, why's the sky beneath my feet? [Pre-Hook] Don't raise it. Don't make it stand. I can't understand a word when it thinks it's above me. Keep it low. Keep it small. Maybe that's the only way the language talks to me. [Hook] lower case... lower mind... somewhere underneath the line... less weight... less sense... less of what I thought I knew... the further down I disappear, the more I see coming through. [Verse 2] I said one was bigger than four hundred. Not bigger on the paper. Bigger where it matters. One came first. Four hundred came later. So maybe size is only size when you're measuring the wrong thing. I dropped a thought. It floated. Gravity left my head. Now everything I thought was heavy barely weighs a breath. Two tonnes inside a sentence, nothing underneath the word. How can something weigh nothing and still be the heaviest thing I've heard? I'm trying to separate it, but distinction keeps dissolving. Every difference looks identical until I stop trying to solve it. Up became a distance. Down became a state. Forward became wherever I could finally navigate. The floor split into directions. Every fracture became a route. I couldn't tell where I was going, but I knew what I was going through. [Verse 3] I'm trying to understand what I can't understand I'm trying to understand. Break the thought apart. Watch the pieces land. One becomes another. Another disappears. I retrieve the one I lost by forgetting why it's here. I got higher, watched the whole world lower. Got lower, started seeing further. Maybe elevation isn't distance. Maybe altitude is perception. Maybe being underneath is another kind of perspective. I don't know. Wait. I do. No... I don't. But something changed. The room is getting bigger while the letters disappear. The quieter that I listen, the louder everything gets in here. Maybe stupid isn't empty. Maybe empty leaves a space. Maybe losing every answer lets the question show its face. And if I'm deluded, why does every broken piece fit together better when I stop demanding that it does? [Bridge] Don't tell me what it means. I'll tell you what it means. No... I'll tell you what I think it means. Wait. The word was there. I had it. I— ... There. I remember. No. I remember remembering it. Is that different? Does it matter? Don't move it. Don't capitalize it. I'll lose it. [Final Verse] The letters got smaller. The room got bigger. The thought got lighter. The meaning got heavier. I fell beneath the sentence and came out above the word. Lost the road beneath my feet and somehow knew which way to turn. One became everything. Everything became one. Four hundred filled the room, but one still stood before it. I couldn't read the language when the language stood above me. So I brought every letter down... and suddenly... it could speak. Not louder. Not clearer. Just closer. Like it had been underneath me the entire fucking time. [Final Hook] lower case... lower mind... don't tell me which way is high... if I lose the words, I'll follow what remains... if I lose the meaning, I'll remember
