V6

[INTRO — spoken, calm] Deuteronomy twenty-eight. They told us about the pain… but never told us why. Never told us about the covenant. Never told us what the Most High said would happen if His people turned away. So now we read it for ourselves. Yeah. [VERSE ONE] I came up asking questions, trying to figure out the pain, How a people lose a name, lose a home, lose everything. Generation after generation, struggle in the blood, Trying to build it from the dirt, trying to rise up from the mud. Then I opened up the book, twenty-eight was on the page, Blessings if we kept His word, curses if we walked away. Most High gave the covenant, told us how we had to live, Told us what would come upon us if we turned away from Him. This ain’t something that I’m saying just to make another rhyme, Read the chapter for yourself, take your time, line by line. When you listen to the warning, you can hear the weight inside, What happens to a people when they leave the Most High. We wanted our own way. Wanted everything in sight. Stopped listening to the Father, started doing what we liked. Now I’m looking at the past, looking different at the scars. Maybe judgment leaves a fingerprint that follows who we are. [CHORUS] We always trust in the Most High, Even when the road gets hard, we keep our heads high. Through the tears, through the years, through the long nights, We always trust in the Most High. We always trust in the Most High, When everything around us says we won’t rise. We remember the covenant, get our hearts right. We always trust in the Most High. [VERSE TWO] He said we’d fall beneath when we were meant to be above, Enemies would rise against us when we turned away from love. Strangers rising higher while His people falling low, Working hard for everything and watching everything go. Fields don’t give the harvest. Hands don’t keep the gain. Build it up for years, then somebody else enjoys the same. That’s a different kind of pain when you know what Scripture said, When the words written generations back start running through your head. Scattered out among the nations, trying to remember home, Children growing generations never knowing where they’re from. Names changed. Tongues changed. History rewritten. But you can’t erase a covenant because the people didn’t listen. So I don’t blame the Most High for the choices that we made. If He warned us from the beginning, then the warning still remains. Turn around. Seek Him. Put the foolishness aside. Because judgment ain’t the ending if His people get it right. [BRIDGE — drums pull back] Maybe we forgot… but He didn’t. Maybe we walked away… but His word remained. Deuteronomy twenty-eight. Read it. Not somebody’s opinion. Not somebody’s tradition. Read it. And ask yourself… What happens when a people forget the One who gave them everything? [VERSE THREE] Now I’m standing in the present with the knowledge of the past, Trying not to make the same mistakes and wonder why we crash. Teach the children who they are, teach ’em discipline and law, Teach ’em reverence for the One who was the Father of us all. It ain’t jewelry on my neck. It ain’t something that I wear. If I say I serve the Most High, then obedience should be there. Can’t scream covenant loudly then ignore what He commands. Can’t demand His protection while rejecting His demands. So the change begins inside me. That’s the message of the track. Before I point at everybody, I gotta put myself on track. Every morning that I wake, every breath that I’m supplied, I remember who provided it: the everlasting Most High. And whatever comes tomorrow, whether peace or harder times, I’m not putting faith in riches, I’m not putting faith in lies. Put the covenant before me. Keep His statutes on my mind. Through the blessing, through correction— I’m still trusting the Most High. [FINAL CHORUS — larger, layered male vocals] WE ALWAYS TRUST IN THE MOST HIGH. Even when the road gets hard, we keep our heads high. Through the tears, through the years, through the long nights, We always trust in the Most High. WE ALWAYS TRUST IN THE MOST HIGH. When everything around us says we won’t rise, We remember the covenant, get our hearts right. We always trust… We always trust… We always trust… IN THE MOST HIGH. [OUTRO — spoken over fading piano] The warning was written. The covenant was written. The consequences were written. So maybe the question isn’t what happened to the people. Maybe the question is… What do we do now that we know?
