Listening For The Thunder

Like everything old Nothing left to gain Like waiting in silence For yesterday to change It’s a walk in winter Worn shoes on your feet The charge to the finish Before the falling of sleet Waiting for darkness Waiting for light Waiting for memories To comfort you tonight Listening for the thunder Leaving heaven’s way The smooth angelic choir Sings of silence and decay Words from fiery sermons Dictate Judgement Day Keeping timid sinners lost And prowling hounds at bay Like sleep in bright rooms That keeps you awake Like fearing the truth After every mistake It’s the one and one Claiming to be three The stranger in the host The fisher in the sea Waiting in the wings Waiting in the crowd Waiting for a savior Young bold and loud Like the sounds of struggle When water touches skin Like the ashes from flesh Mixing dirt with the wind
