Outcast Code

TITLE: Outcast Code [INTRO CHORUS] I found my people where the cool kids don’t see Back row table with a little room to breathe Everybody broken, but they felt real to me Outcast code, let the weird ones be Names in the margins, hearts on their sleeve Laughing through the lunch bell, talking through the grief You ain’t gotta shine just to sit with me I found my people where the cool kids don’t see [VERSE 1] I could talk to anybody, that was always me Open like a front porch, guarded like a tree Rooted in the hard dirt, branches in the breeze Friendly with the whole room, close with maybe three Some kids had scars, some kids had jokes Some hid bad nights under oversized coats Some got loud when the pain got deep Some stayed quiet, just trying to sleep I never cared who the hallway crowned Never chased names that were passed around If you were real, you could take that seat If you were fake, you got read in a week Clarity hammer, but I swung it clean Told hard truths, never just to be mean They called me heavy, said I cut too deep But I only said the things they were scared to see [PRE-CHORUS] We weren’t cool, we weren’t clean We were half-built souls in a school machine Bell rang out, but it didn’t set us free So we made our own little place to be [CHORUS] I found my people where the cool kids don’t see Back row table with a little room to breathe Everybody broken, but they felt real to me Outcast code, let the weird ones be Names in the margins, hearts on their sleeve Laughing through the lunch bell, talking through the grief You ain’t gotta shine just to sit with me I found my people where the cool kids don’t see [VERSE 2] Graduation came with that fake forever Everybody swore we would all stay together I looked around like, man, don’t sell that dream We barely knew the truth underneath We didn’t ride all night with the music low Didn’t sit in the dark where the real talks grow Didn’t come to my house, didn’t know my street You knew my name, you didn’t know me And that ain’t hate, that’s just what it is Not every table turns into kin Some were good for a season, some were just around Some disappeared when life got loud Few came close, fewer stayed Some smiled bright with a hidden blade Some called it love till they had to bleed Then left me there when I had a need I ain’t perfect, I can crack, I can break I said wrong things with my hands on flame But don’t call it friendship if you only agree When the story stays easy and clean [PRE-CHORUS] We weren’t cool, we weren’t clean We were half-built souls in a school machine Bell rang out, but it didn’t set us free So we made our own little place to be [CHORUS] I found my people where the cool kids don’t see Back row table with a little room to breathe Everybody broken, but they felt real to me Outcast code, let the weird ones be Names in the margins, hearts on their sleeve Laughing through the lunch bell, talking through the grief You ain’t gotta shine just to sit with me I found my people where the cool kids don’t see [BRIDGE] Here’s to the ones who could sit in silence Didn’t need proof, didn’t need violence Didn’t need cool, didn’t need shine Just a little bit of truth and a little bit of time Here’s to the kids that the room passed by With the storm in their chest and the light in their eyes If the world called you strange, you were welcome with me Outcast code, let the weird ones be [FINAL CHORUS] I found my people where the cool kids don’t see Back row table with a little room to breathe Everybody broken, but they felt real to me Outcast code, let the weird ones be Names in the margins, hearts on their sleeve Laughing through the lunch bell, talking through the grief You ain’t gotta shine just to sit with me I found my people where the cool kids don’t see [OUTRO] You ain’t gotta shine just to sit with me You ain’t gotta lie just to be free If you knew the dark, you could know my light If you sat through the silence, then you earned that right I found my people where the cool kids don’t see Outcast code, let the weird ones be Blood on the Mic is now streaming on Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, YouTube Music, and other major platforms.
