Persley Den

There is a place in Scotland, A place where I have been. A better spot you could not find While up in Aberdeen. To spend a short vacation there, Beneath that shady glen, Will fill your heart with mirth and joy, Those charms of Persley Den. The river on the seaward course Flows smoothly on and on, The birds are singing in the trees Their merry spring-time song. We hear the warble of the thrush The linnets and the wren. They all chime in to make life sweet In the shades of Persley Den. The bees are busy all day long Until the sunset hour, They gather honey all the day From each and every flower, The children there do like to stroll Far from their books and pen, And leave the thoughts of school behind For a roam in Persley Den. Now when this war is really o'er, And the boys they all come home, I think they will be satisfied To stay and never roam. Unless it is just for a walk An evening now and then With a bonnie lassie by their side Through the shades of Persley Den.
