Between Truths [NDC-TT]
[Intro - Sparse Spanish guitar] [Cold, minimal, building tension slowly] [Verse 1 - First person, intimate, almost whispered] The voices started soft at first Just whispers in the morning air I told myself to ignore them Doctors said they weren't really there (Se está perdiendo) (Poco a poco) But they knew things Small things My coffee order My mother's maiden name [Minimal palmas - single claps, sparse] [Verse 2 - First person, slightly more accepting] I stopped fighting around Tuesday Let them talk while I make tea They comment on the weather Keep me company (La verdad se dobla) (Ella no lo ve) One sounds like my sister One sounds like a friend They argue about what I should wear I've learned to let them recommend [Pre-Chorus - Building slightly, guitar intensifying] What is real? What is real enough? If they help me function Isn't that enough? (¡Ay, qué pena!) (¿Dónde está la verdad?) [Chorus - Flamenco estribillo, call-and-response] Between truths, between worlds (¡Entre verdades!) I walk the line that no one sees (¡Nadie lo ve!) [Palmas - rhythmic clapping building] Between truths, between voices (¡Las voces cantan!) They guide me where I need to be (¡Así sobrevivo!) Real enough, real enough (¡Basta ya!, ¡Basta ya!) This is how I stay alive Between truths Between truths [Guitar solo - Cold, beautiful, restrained] [Not virtuosic, but emotionally naked] [Verse 3 - First person, more normalized to the situation] I set an extra place at dinner Not because I've lost my mind But because they sit there anyway And fighting it takes too much time (Ya no lucha) (Acepta la ilusión) They warn me about people Who smile but mean me harm They've been right three times now So I listen, stay calm [Verse 4 - First person, fully integrated] My therapist asks gently "Do you know they're not real?" I say "Yes" because it's easier Than explaining how they feel (Miente para protegerse) (O quizás dice la verdad) Real enough to comfort Real enough to guide Real enough to matter In this world I live inside [Bridge - Sparse, almost a cappella with minimal guitar] [Repetition as tool - same phrase, shifting meaning] They tell me I'm safe "Primera vez: miedo" They tell me I'm safe "Segunda vez: duda" They tell me I'm safe "Tercera vez: confianza" They tell me I'm safe And maybe Maybe they're right (¿Quién decide qué es real?) [Final Chorus - Colder, more resolved, building palmas] Between truths, between worlds (¡Entre verdades!) I walk the line that no one sees (¡Nadie lo ve!) [Palmas intensifying] Between truths, between voices (¡Las voces cantan!) They guide me where I need to be (¡Así sobrevivo!) Real enough, real enough (¡Basta ya, basta ya!) This is how I stay alive Between truths "Entre verdades, entre verdades" [Outro - Minimal, fading to almost nothing] [Single guitar notes, sparse] They're talking now About tomorrow's plans I nod along "Se ha ido" "Se ha quedado" "Se ha salvado" "Se ha perdido" [Whispered, ambiguous] And I'm fine I'm fine I'm fine ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Between Truths" explores the gradual shift from fighting reality to reshaping it—not as romantic escape, but as functional survival. Told from the perspective of someone navigating schizophrenia and dissociation, the song traces the journey from initial resistance to complete integration of voices and altered perceptions into daily life. Using the structure of modern, dark flamenco—stripped of passion's heat but retaining its emotional depth—the track employs two voices: the first-person English narrative of lived experience, and Spanish call-and-response functioning as both external observation and internal dialogue. The chorus embraces traditional flamenco estribillo structure with palmas-driven rhythm and the repeated hook "Entre verdades" (Between truths), emphasizing the space between competing realities rather than choosing one. The song's power lies in its refusal to moralize. What looks like denial from outside is, from inside, the architecture that allows continued existence. The voices that once terrified become guides, companions, protectors. Reality doesn't break suddenly—it bends slowly, imperceptibly, until the new version becomes more livable than the old truth. Repetition serves as structural tool: "They tell me I'm safe" appears four times, each marked by Spanish commentary showing emotional progression from miedo (fear) to confianza (trust). The same words, but the context—and therefore the truth—shifts beneath them. The chorus refrain "Real enough, real enough / ¡Basta ya!" (It's enough!) becomes a mantra of survival rather than surrender. This isn't a song about recovery or triumph. It's about existing between truths—between what others call reality and what becomes necessary to survive. The flamenco tradition of expressing desperation, passion, and resolution remains, but here resolution isn't healing. It's navigation. Walking the line between worlds that no one else can see. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- © 2026 Ande Records Lyrics by Ande All rights reserved. https://ande-records.se/
