Vertical Desert
This was created as the soundtrack for a shelved 1969 Japanese youth film. The name of a real city is mentioned again, likely because it was the largest shopping district at the time and was particularly popular among young people. It's also likely because classic films set in this city are highly acclaimed overseas. Perhaps the contrast between urban and rural areas was common during this time. Here, too, I'm trying to convey the struggles of a brilliant student, hailed as a child prodigy in his hometown, as he enters a large urban university and struggles to adapt. Just to be clear, I would like to add that I personally have absolutely no negative image of Tokyo or Shinjuku.
