The wind first sighed — then screamed, The clouds turned red like wounds reopened. The people cried, “What sin have we done?” And ran for cover from the eye of Jah’s storm. [Scene 1 – The Storm Begins] Drums of heaven pound the plain, Rain like stone, fire like pain. Mothers clutch the earth, Fathers brace the door. They shout, “We must have angered the sky — We must have failed to give enough.” The goats cry out, the torches die, And even the brave hide from the wind’s eye. [Scene 2 – The Girl’s Vigil] In a small hut near the river bend, The Girl guards the wounded one. Lightning flash — his face revealed, Sweat on brow, breath half concealed. She wrings the cloth, presses it slow, Whispers, “Breathe, please — don’t go.” The storm claws the walls, the roof groans above, But her song hums steady — rhythm of love. [Scene 3 – Jack’s Watch / Abel’s Dream] Between them both, a shadow stand — Neither seen nor made by hand. Jack guard the flame the storm would claim, His breath a bridge, his word a name. He feels the pulse of mortal pain, And prays the dawn will come again. Abel stirs, his fevered eyes See visions burn and angels rise. The Girl still tends, her hope unshaken, While Jack keeps watch — the vow unbroken. [Scene 4 – The Eye of the Storm] For one brief hour, silence reigns. The air so still it hums with pain. Outside, the huts are broken reeds — But inside, only heartbeats lead. She curls beside him, body worn, Still holding hope till light is born. The night bends low — then sighs — then breaks, And morning glows where shadow shakes. [Scene 5 – The Morning After] The sun climbs through a mist of smoke, The fields are gone, the fences broke. Yet from the hut a soft cry rings — The sound of life, the breath it brings. He wakes to find her by his side, Her hair damp, but her smile wide. Her wraps are clean, his fever done — The storm has passed — two hearts are one. [Final Ensemble Refrain – Transition to “Rise Up Weary Soul”] The sky wept fire, the earth stood still, But love defied the Maker’s will. When all else drowned, two spirits met — And hope was born the night Jah wept. Jack whispers low through morning’s roll: “Rise up, rise up… weary soul.” (Soft reprise from ensemble) Rise up… weary soul… The storm has passed, but hearts must grow whole.
