Verse 1: Another circuit 'round the sun complete The calendar's last page beneath my feet All those plans I made in January's light Some came true, some vanished in the night Chorus 1: So here we stand on December's edge Counting down what's left to pledge The year dissolves like snow in rain Tomorrow wears a different name Verse 2: I've carried weight I should have set down Made mistakes I can't disown But midnight brings a strange amnesty A chance to choose who I might be Chorus 2: Watch the old year slip away No ceremony, no delay Just a number's quiet fall And another waiting in the hall Bridge: Time doesn't stop or start, it only flows We mark it off in artificial rows But something shifts when we agree to say This moment here divides yesterday from today Verse 3: I won't pretend that clocks bring transformation Or make resolutions like incantations But I'll acknowledge this invented line This arbitrary moment we call time Chorus 3: The year ahead is blank and wide No script, no map, no gentle guide Just stairs to days unknown And I'll climb them, counting as I go Outro: So goodbye to what's been written down Hello to streets in some new town The year turns over, clean and spare And I'll meet whatever's waiting there
