Remembering El Mozote

V5

[Intro - high pitched old boy talking] December, 1981 … They came to murder. En El Mozote… Generations of locals remembers what the rest of the world forgot. [Instrumental interlude] [Verse 1] The village slept, unaware of contempt, soldiers marched to quell dissent. Little warning for what would come, but faith was crushed for what they done. Quemaron la esperanza en la fe, left only ghosts where life once stayed. The government slaughtered, trust betrayed! [Pre-Chorus] No defence came, no one heard — only the gunfire spoke every word. [Chorus] Los ecos de El Mozote still cry, voices lost beneath the sky. Ellos mataron sin perdón, but the lost souls — they carry on. Los ecos de El Mozote — still alive, through the blood, through the fire, we survive. [Verse 2] Six days of screams, six days of flame, innocence raped without shame. Los soldados dijeron que era paz, but all I heard was the devil laugh. Every survivor remembers pain, no lie can wash that stain. [Pre-Chorus] They said the war would make them free, but their freedom died in misery. [Chorus] Los ecos de El Mozote still cry, voices lost beneath the sky. Ellos mataron sin perdón, but the lost souls — they carry on. Los ecos de El Mozote — still alive, through the blood, through the fire, we survive.. [Bridge / Breakdown] (tribal drums rise, screaming layered with chanting) ¡Oye! — the ground still breathes their names. El Salvador — never the same. You can silence every scream, but you can’t kill a dream. (crowd chants behind: “¡Mozote vive! ¡Mozote vive!”) [Final Chorus / Outro] Los ecos de El Mozote still cry, their tears became our battle cry. Ellos mataron sin perdón, but our voices carry on. Through pain, through rage, through time — El Mozote — never dies. *(fade with whispered “Nunca muere… Mozote… Mozote…”)
