[Verse 1] It’s nine o’clock on a Saturday The fiddlers are tuning up strings There’s a bold lad next to me laughing loud Spinning tales and downing his drinks He says, “Friend, can you play me a jigger? It’s a song from the old county fair It’s wild, and it’s warm, and I danced to its charm With me feet flying high in the air” [Refrain] Hey, fa-la-la, diddle-dee-da Diddle-dee-da-da-dum [Chorus] Sing us a song, you're the whiskey man Pour us a glass tonight Well, we’re all in the mood for a reel or two And your tunes make the world feel right [Verse 2] Now Seán at the bar is a pal of mine He slips me a stout for free And he's fast with a tale or a bawdy old joke But his heart’s where he’d rather be He says, “Lad, I believe this is killin' me” As he sighs and he lowers his glass “But I’d sail off to Dublin and play in the square If I ever could haul me arse” [Refrain] Oh, fa-la-la, diddle-dee-da Diddle-dee-da-da-dum [Verse 3] Now Pat is a scribe of the countryside But he never did marry a lass And he’s talkin’ with Mick, who still sails on the brig And he swears he’ll be navy till pass’d And the lassies are laughin' and spinnin' round As the bankers get drunk and dance Yes, they're sharing a pint they call loneliness But it’s grand when you’ve got the chance [Fiddle Solo] [Chorus] Sing us a song, you're the whiskey man Pour us a glass tonight Well, we’re all in the mood for a reel or two And your tunes make the world feel right [Verse 4] It's a bonny good crowd on a Saturday And the barman gives me a cheer ’Cause he knows that it’s me they are waitin' to see To forget all their troubles and fear And the fiddle, it sounds like a ceilidh call And the bodhrán’s beatin’ so near And they slam down their coins and they laugh in their joy And shout, “Lad, play the song we hear!” [Refrain] Oh, fa-la-la, diddle-dee-da Diddle-dee-da-da-dum [Chorus] Sing us a song, you're the whiskey man Pour us a glass tonight Well, we’re all in the mood for a reel or two And your tunes make the world feel right
