[Verse 1] Nails through hands that healed the blind, Thorns upon the brow divine, Crowds below with mocking cries, Yet love looks down with weeping eyes. [Chorus] Father, forgive them, He prayed, For the very ones who made Cruel marks upon His side, And I was there, I could not hide. Father, forgive them, He prayed, And the debt of my sin was paid. [Verse 2] Not a word of anger spoken, Not a bitter heart was broken, Dying love for dying men, He prays for sinners once again. [Chorus] Father, forgive them, He prayed, For the very ones who made Cruel marks upon His side, And I was there, I could not hide. Father, forgive them, He prayed, And the debt of my sin was paid. [Bridge] If He could pray for those who nailed Him there, He will hear the sinner's humble prayer. [Final Chorus] Father, forgive them, He prayed, Mercy flows from the cross He bore, Father, forgive me, I've prayed, And He welcomes me evermore. [Outro] Forgiven... forgiven...
