RADIO STATION 11:11 S2E 2: “The Red Door”

[INTRO - LOW HUM, SLOW HEARTBEAT, DISTANT RADIO STATIC] [Footsteps] [Key turns in a lock] [CLICK] [Door creaks open] CHILD’S VOICE: You shouldn’t have opened it. DJ: You told me to. CHILD: I told you when. DJ: When? CHILD: After you remembered. [Silence] [LOW SYNTH PULSE] [VERSE 1] There’s a red door underneath the station Paint peeling like it’s been here forever No handle on the inside No window, no name, no number I put the silver key inside the lock And felt the whole building breathe The hallway disappeared behind me And something started counting underneath One… Two… Three… [PRE-CHORUS] The walls are covered in photographs Thousands of faces looking back Every picture has the same timestamp 11:11 printed in black Some are strangers Some are friends Some are people I haven’t met Then I saw a picture of myself Standing where I’m standing now [CHORUS] Behind the red door There’s a room full of yesterday Behind the red door There’s a future on display Every face is someone Every voice is someone Every ending has a name Behind the red door Nothing stays the same [POST-CHORUS] Red door Red door What did you bring me here for? [VERSE 2] There are radios stacked from floor to ceiling Every one of them tuned to 11:11 Some are playing songs I recognize Some are playing songs I’ve never written One radio starts to crackle And I hear my own voice say: VOICE: If you’re hearing this recording You’ve already made the mistake DJ: What mistake? VOICE: Opening the door. [Music cuts] DJ: When did I record this? VOICE: Tomorrow. [BEAT RETURNS] [PRE-CHORUS] I walked deeper through the silence Past a thousand blinking lights Every radio was broadcasting A different version of tonight Then one screen showed a hospital One showed a crowded street One showed a little girl Sleeping underneath a sheet [CHORUS] Behind the red door There’s a room full of yesterday Behind the red door There’s a future on display Every face is someone Every voice is someone Every ending has a name Behind the red door Nothing stays the same [BRIDGE - MUSIC DROPS TO PIANO AND STATIC] [Child’s voice comes through an old radio] CHILD: Do you see her? DJ: Who? CHILD: The woman from the photograph. DJ: She’s not here. CHILD: Look again. [Static] [DJ gasps] DJ: That’s impossible. CHILD: You say that a lot. [Soft female voice enters] WOMAN: You finally opened it. DJ: How are you here? WOMAN: I’m not. DJ: Then what am I hearing? WOMAN: A memory. DJ: Whose memory? [Pause] WOMAN: Yours. [Music swells] [FINAL CHORUS] Behind the red door I can hear the years collide Every life we could have lived Is standing side by side There’s the woman There’s the child There’s the stranger I became And every single photograph Has my face inside the frame Behind the red door Now I finally see… The station isn’t somewhere in time. The station is time remembering me. [POST-CHORUS] 11:11 Don’t close the door 11:11 We’re not alone anymore [OUTRO - RADIO STATIC, DISTANT HEARTBEAT] [Footsteps approach] DJ: Who’s there? [Child’s voice, very close:] CHILD: Me. [DJ turns] [Silence] DJ: You’re not a child. CHILD: Not anymore. [Door slams] [Clock ticking rapidly] 11:10… 11:09… 11:08… [Whisper:] We need to go before it reaches 11:11. [LOUD STATIC] [END]
