「holly」 “It is an evergreen tree in the olive family that blooms fragrant white flowers in late autumn. The edges of its young leaves have sharp spines, but as the tree matures, the spines gradually disappear and the leaves become smooth-edged.” “Holly leaves have two roles: one is to protect the young tree from threats, and the other is to ward off evil and protect someone else. This song centers on the ‘individuality’ and ‘potential’ symbolized by the holly’s thorns.” --------------------------------------------------------------------- [Verse 1] When I was still young, I hurt many people. I only wanted to protect myself— my thorns refused to let me grow up. [Chorus 1] Blue, tinted by drifting snow petals, fluttering softly. The white that still lingers on my skin simply waits for its end. [Verse 2] As the deepening cold sharpens, it quietly wears down my thorns. That’s what growing up means— I can finally stand among others, though it feels a little lonely. [Pre-Chorus] What bloomed in place of the thorns was a small white brooch in my heart. The kindness that lets me stand beside someone gently warms a little of my loneliness. [Chorus 2] Blue, dyed by falling snow petals, descending in quiet stillness. The white that still clings to my skin simply waits for its end. [Bridge] Sometimes I wonder about another future— a future where my thorns remained, a future where I might have been able to protect someone. [Last Chorus] Blue, seen faintly through drifting snow petals, falling softly. The white that still stays in my chest may someday shine to guide someone.
