[Verse 1] Hooked that coupe at two a.m. Chain bit down on chrome I wrote my name on a wet work order And the lot came cold and slow Keys gone, gone with the owner Dash lit up like a grave Then I heard a little voice From the back seat cage [Pre-Chorus] I froze with my hand on the wheel Heard that soft cut through the rain Not a dog, not a radio It said my name again [Chorus] Repo man’s prayer What do I do now? Repo man’s prayer I can’t take this down Repo man’s prayer Let the chain go slack Repo man’s prayer I’m sending it back (sending it back) [Verse 2] I cracked that door and the child looked up Two eyes in the dark Blanket on the booster seat Small fists and a cardboard shark She said my mama told me wait Said she’d be right out I saw a pacifier, a cracked-up snack bag And a sun-faded name on the out [Pre-Chorus] I called the number on the card Just got a dead tone hum Then that old guilt hit my boots Like a kicked-in drum [Chorus] Repo man’s prayer What do I do now? Repo man’s prayer I can’t take this down Repo man’s prayer Let the chain go slack Repo man’s prayer I’m sending it back (sending it back) [Bridge] I sat in that truck till the sky turned bruised With the child asleep in a coat Found a crumpled note in the glove box lid Said, “Please don’t tow if you can’t” So I cut the chain with a borrowed wrench And I rolled that car to the curb Then I stood by the hood like a sinner in dust And I let that prayer leave first [Final Chorus] Repo man’s prayer What do I do now? Repo man’s prayer I can’t take this down Repo man’s prayer Let the chain go slack Repo man’s prayer I’m sending it back (sending it back) [Outro] Two a.m. broke like glass On the cold black yard I left the keys in my pocket And mercy in the dark
