--- And with this, I close out the "Temple Of Pearls" album. :-) Wanted something that felt like the artist transitioning from one musical style to another as they explore what various regions have to offer. Saying goodbye to the grey skies and grunge of the Pacific Northwest and moving on to embrace the Cajun Zydeco sound of "The Big Easy". This one had far more Cajun Zydeco than Grunge, but it's super lively and totally made me smile, so it's exactly what I am looking for. Also looking forward to listening to the entire album as a whole and seeing how it came together as a cohesive piece. This song makes multiple callbacks to the other songs, so that's fun too. ~David --- [Musical Introduction] [Music Build Up] [Verse 1] Grey skies taught me how to wait How to sit with doubt, how to hesitate Rain-soaked nights, feedback hum Built my bones where I’m from I dug through noise, I hit the floor Scratched the surface, begged for more Found one good try, found my name Learned which scars I’d keep the same [Pre-Chorus] This town gave me truth and weight But I won’t confuse it with my fate [Chorus] Dark skies, bright goodbyes No tears left in these eyes I’m packin’ storms and stolen tunes Chasin’ lighter afternoons I won’t burn what made me whole I just won’t let it hold my soul Dark skies, bright goodbyes I’m still searchin’—that’s my life [Verse 2] Temple of pearls, cracked and loud False gods fall when the amps come down Best best friends don’t care where you go They just say, “Man, don’t lose that glow” I learned to crawl before I flew Bled for songs I barely knew Now every road feels open wide Every wrong note still applies [Musical Interlude] [Music Solo] [Pre-Chorus 2] I don’t need permission to evolve Just a rhythm I can solve [Chorus] Dark skies, bright goodbyes Let the past ride shotgun tonight I’m takin’ grit, I’m takin’ soul Addin’ spice to rock and roll If it feels true, I’ll let it play If it don’t, I walk away Dark skies, bright goodbyes Still movin’—still alive [Bridge] There’s heat where the river bends Where the beat don’t ever end Accordion breath, backbeat sway Grunge still growls, but learns to pray Not settlin’, just movin’ on Same hunger, different song [Musical Interlude] [Music Solo] [Breakdown (half-time / atmospheric)] I won’t unplug I won’t fade I’ll take every sound I made And stir it slow Let it change Let it burn a brighter flame [Final Chorus] Dark skies, bright goodbyes New light in familiar eyes I’m still the kid with somethin’ to say Just learned a better way to play From rain-soaked streets to humid nights From distortion to second-line Dark skies, bright goodbyes Same heart—new fire inside [Outro] Never done Just movin’ through Every sound Still comin’ true [Musical Ending] [Fade Out] [End]
