The Cursed Deck

[Verse 1] I found the deck in a black cloth sack Under the floor where the old boards crack Thirteen faces, all of them stare One split lip grin like a funeral dare Cut my thumb on the queen of bones Blood on the back and the cold came home Deal me silence, deal me sin Every card I pull, it pulls me in [(hush)] The table shakes when I say that name Ash in my mouth, and I taste that flame Black cat steps where the candle died Three knocks hit from the other side [Pre-Chorus] Tell me, baby, what did I buy? A moving grave with a staring eye I hear the cards in a dead man’s tone Say my future like a church bell moan [Chorus] Cursed deck, cursed deck Lay me down, then collect Cursed deck, cursed deck Every draw leaves a hex Cursed deck, cursed deck Read my ruin off your chest Cursed deck, cursed deck I keep dealing with the dead [Verse 2] One card says there’s a knife in the rain One says my name in a windowpane One says run when the moon turns red One says sleep with a stone in your head I laughed once, now I never laugh Saw my face in the mirrored glass It smiled back with my jaw unhinged Then the room went still and the whole thing singed [(chant)] Count the cards, count the sin Let the thin dark hour begin King of crows and a widow’s hand Draw too deep and it takes the man [Pre-Chorus] Tell me, baby, can you hear them talk? Little dead feet in the hallway walk I tried to burn them, tried to break But the smoke just wrote my fate [Chorus] Cursed deck, cursed deck Lay me down, then collect Cursed deck, cursed deck Every draw leaves a hex Cursed deck, cursed deck Read my ruin off your chest Cursed deck, cursed deck I keep dealing with the dead [Bridge] Now the cellar breathes through the walls at night And the cards glow dull in the candlelight I see a throne made of splinters and ash And a crown made of every bad choice I had If I pull the last one, I know what it means A mouth full of worms and a crown of screams So I leave it there, let it stare at me But it knows my hand, and it wants me free [Chorus] Cursed deck, cursed deck Lay me down, then collect Cursed deck, cursed deck Every draw leaves a hex Cursed deck, cursed deck Read my ruin off your chest Cursed deck, cursed deck I keep dealing with the dead
