[Verse 1] Monkey in the trees Tail like a question mark Swinging through the guava leaves Stealing from the park Little brown hands Knocking down the fruit Eyes like two black marbles Bare feet on a root [Pre-Chorus] He looks my way Then disappears Through the green maze And the hot air [Chorus] Monkey in the trees Monkey in the trees He takes what he wants And he runs so free Monkey in the trees Monkey in the trees Laughing at me Up in the leaves [Verse 2] By the fence at noon He snatched a yellow peel Sat on the branch like a king Making it a meal Kids on the path Clapping in a row He bowed like he knew Then put on a show [Pre-Chorus] He looks my way Then disappears Through the green maze And the hot air [Chorus] Monkey in the trees Monkey in the trees He takes what he wants And he runs so free Monkey in the trees Monkey in the trees Laughing at me Up in the leaves [Bridge] When the rain comes down He shakes it off When the dogs bark loud He climbs up high One small shadow One wild grin And every branch he touches Starts to sing [Chorus] Monkey in the trees Monkey in the trees He takes what he wants And he runs so free Monkey in the trees Monkey in the trees Laughing at me Up in the leaves
