[Verse 1] The gate won’t lift this morning The mill wheel sits and stares My boots have split like sinners And the ale has turned to air The blacksmith’s bell is silent The cook says, “This is strange” The steward kicks the pantry door And nothing wants to change [Pre-Chorus] So I bowed to the clerk With flour on my face He looked at the cursed machine And said it in my place [Chorus] Have you tried turning it off and on again? Off and on again Have you tried turning it off and on again? That’s the whole kingdom’s plan (Off and on again) (off and on again) When the gears won’t obey (Have you tried turning it off and on again?) Try it the honest way [Verse 2] The priest can’t bless the lantern The cat won’t chase the rats The herald lost his trumpet Then fell into the vats The jester shook his hourglass And muttered, “Far from good” The Duke kept poking buttons Like a lord of bad omenhood [Pre-Chorus] Then the maid said, “Watch him He does this every year” He muttered, “Sir, it’s simpler Than battle, wine, or fear” [Chorus] Have you tried turning it off and on again? Off and on again Have you tried turning it off and on again? That’s the whole kingdom’s plan (Off and on again) (off and on again) When the gears won’t obey (Have you tried turning it off and on again?) Try it the honest way [Bridge] Pull the plug from the dragon Let the dead fire sleep Count to ten in candle smoke And hear the hinges weep Then bring it back to life, my lord Like dawn upon the fen A miracle in a sheepish grin And then we do it again [Chorus] Have you tried turning it off and on again? Off and on again Have you tried turning it off and on again? That’s the whole kingdom’s plan (Off and on again) (off and on again) When the gears won’t obey (Have you tried turning it off and on again?) Try it the honest way
