We Were the MTV Generation

[Verse 1] We were the MTV generation Living for the sound and the sensation Sneakers on the rug in your basement Posters peeling Hearts in rotation Burned our dreams on cheap cassettes Passed them ‘round like secret bets Static on the screen We’d still stay late Every countdown felt like fate [Chorus] We were the MTV generation Living for the sound and the sensation Every song a little revolution Every night its own intoxication (oh yeah) Sing it loud like teenage declarations Turn it up That reckless dedication Every song a little revolution Every night its own intoxication [Verse 2] Friday in a thrift-store jacket Phone card coins in a denim pocket Calling just to say “it’s on” Channel set before you’re home Fighting with your brother for the remote Cranking up the volume till your parents spoke Learning every line Every crooked rhyme Like it was scripture for our time [Chorus] We were the MTV generation Living for the sound and the sensation Every song a little revolution Every night its own intoxication Sing it loud like teenage declarations Turn it up That reckless dedication Every song a little revolution Every night its own intoxication (intoxication) [Bridge] Did we know it wouldn’t last? Fading logos Futures fast But in my head that glow still plays You’re on the floor I’m wide awake [Chorus] We were the MTV generation Living for the sound and the sensation Every song a little revolution Every night its own intoxication Sing it loud like teenage declarations Turn it up That reckless dedication Every song a little revolution Every night its own intoxication (oh, intoxication)
