[Verse 1] Wanderin' through the desert Tempted at each turn Despairin' God had left us To leave our hearts to burn But it's clear what He was doin' While we languished in the breeze He had destined all along To bring you near to me [Chorus] Near to me The good Lord had it planned Near to me Now I understand All those lonely years behind us As far as I can see The Lord is here to guide us And keep you near to me [Verse 2] The Good Book says it well Recorded for all time I am my beloved's And my beloved's mine As we climb the highest mountain And we cross the deepest sea His Spirit lives within us To keep you here with me [Chorus] Here with me It is written in the stars Here with me No matter where you are All those lonely years behind us As far as I can see The Lord is here to guide us And keep you near to me [Bridge] Though distance or distractions Might make it seem we're far apart There's no way for you to leave This special place within my heart [Chorus] Dear to me So precious in my mind Dear to me So gentle and so kind All those lonely years behind us As far as I can see The Lord is here to guide us And keep you near to me [Outro] The Lord is here to guide us And keep you near to me
